Where I put the clever stuff...

Keeping track of people’s photos with the Flickr API.
In case you didn’t know, Flickr is a popular photo sharing website. Lots of people put their pictures, and some of those pictures are very good.

Flickr Watch is some PHP code I’ve knocked up (using the Flickr API, via Dan Coulter’s phpFlickr class) to keep track of various users whose photos I like. It shows the last four photos from each person being tracked, along with a link to their photostream.
Everything is wired into a database for easy addition and removal of users. To keep things simple, users are added by inputting a url that points to any part of their Flickr profile.
There are a couple of negatives to point out. It’s not very quick, but that’s down to access to the Flickr API being slow. Also, at the time I wrote the class, I didn’t realise I was essentially duplicating Flickr’s “contacts” functionality. I use that now!
